An architectural tour for Frankfurt residents and visitors who are interested in the changes in the east of the city. <\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Industry forbidden - until the middle of the 19th century, the Frankfurt building statute restricted the settlement of smoking and noisy production facilities so that those seeking relaxation would not be bothered. A port and a smoke-free electrical industry on an area the size of a fifth of the city ensured that industrial development in Germany was connected to it at the beginning of the 20th century. After the war, the area along Hanauer Landstrasse developed into an Eldorado for creative people and those who like to party. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The architectural tour begins at the wholesale market hall by Martin Els\u00e4sser - a model building of 1920s industrial architecture, which is now part of the headquarters of the European Central Bank (ECB). The further route takes us through the new harbor park and past the ECB memorial, a monument that commemorates the deportation of more than 10,000 Frankfurt Jews, to Hanauer Landstrasse. Here the brightly-flagged second-hand shops have disappeared and an important car mile has emerged with a number of premium car dealerships. A large number of trading courtyards from the beginning of the 20th century became popular workplaces for advertisers, designers and architects. In the early 1990s, this development was initiated by the conversion and expansion of the Union Brewery area. The beautiful inner courtyard, surrounded by restaurants, select shops, an event hall and the Romanfabrik, is a highlight of the architectural tour. Behind it, in contrast, there is a view of the logistics companies of the East Harbor. Nestled in between lies the Schwedlersee, a green oasis with an outdoor swimming pool that you would not expect at this location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
