Energy-saving construction

With the founding of the energy supply in Frankfurt in 1990 made a prioritization clear.

A facility has been created that keeps the city on the pulse of sustainability, energy conservation, environmental friendliness and all the associated considerations.

This included, for example, that in a period of time all public buildings in Frankfurt were built to passive house standard.

Private investors did the same for the city. The Commerzbank has also introduced the theme in high-rise construction with its tower. It is now standard for office buildings to be certified according to DGNB or the American Leed System.

The Frankfurt-based kfw Bank, which is shaping the construction of energy-efficient single-family homes with the kfw standards, attaches great importance to setting a good example in terms of energy efficiency with its buildings. Innovative ways were taken by the Sauerbruch Hutton office with the striking Westarkade section of the building.

In housing construction, standards such as energy-saving underfloor heating or triple glazing have prevailed.

Not least due to numerous publications by the owners, the two large housing associations ABG and Nassauische Heimstätte, the two Aktiv + houses have made two experimental housing projects in specialist circles very well known, in which more energy is to be produced than the inhabitants consume.

Housing association ABG and Frankfurt-based utility Mainova have set up a competence center with ABGnova, which tries to optimize the relationship between housing and infrastructure.

It is also worth taking a look to Darmstadt, where intensive research is conducted at the TU and the Passive House Institute is located.

The interesting projects are spread all over the city. According to your interests, we are happy to put together suitable objects or organize a lecture for you.

It should be noted at this point, however, that indoor visits of buildings are possible only in exceptional cases.
